Day 54- DETOX!!!!

blergh…meh!

After a few days of junk food and drinks I feel like crap.

I have not been drunk for years but absolutely drink over the recommended weekly amount for women. I enjoy some wine with certain foods and also like having a few rums especially on holiday or at the weekend.

I think people who suffer from anxiety and/or depression really have to watch how much they drink. It would be tempting just to drink everyday because in the short term it can make you feel less anxious/depressed. Slightly longer term (even the next day) you realise that alcohol is in fact a depressant. I also find because It makes me tired I am less likely to do things I need to to to make my anxiety better.

I have decided to have a wee detox for a month to let my liver recover a bit..after that I am going to try to only have a few drinks at the weekend.

I think these types of detoxes are good, well for one it’s good to give your body a chance to recover. Secondly, It’s good to know that psychologically we are not dependent on alcohol (even If we only drink at the weekend we could still ‘need’ to do that). I have a history of alcoholism in my family and this is something I like to keep my eye on.

So for a month starting today I am ‘On the wagon’! … Oh and also If I see another take away again I will go mental!! So no more crap food either!! (Honestly I could just eat a big plate of Brussel sprouts!!)

This is my happy thing for today ..It’s one of those happier over time things too.

Well I think after my holiday I am all caught up now!! See you tomorrow!! :D

    I’ll drink to that! I still got some beers from the trash film party, and they’re not gonna drink themselves… so no detox for me… also, now the harvest festivities are beginning, so for the next 3 months I’ll be drinking nearly on a daily basis

      Gah!!.. everyone is drinking except me.. You are all a bunch of temptresses and tempters!! :D
      My house is full of booze, a fridge filled with beers downstairs and a cupboard filled with alcohol including my favourite rum!
      EEK! .. Oh well.

        well, there’s Erntedank (Harvest thanks) on Oct 14th, Kerwa (Kirchweih, church consecration), one for every village, then as americans of Irish descent we gon on to Halloween, or as I and my college colleagues say, Samhain (they’re really into the ancient Celtic and neopagan), and finally, november 15th, the American Thanksgiving. Oh, and not exactly related to harvest or seasons, Tag der Deutschen Einheit on October 3rd (German Reunification day)

        so, got a lot of partying and drinking to do

    You can have all my Brussel Sprouts! I donate them gladly to you… I’ll take a plate of steamed broccoli instead. Hey, have you ever cooked asparagus on the grill? Oh my, I’ll never have steamed asparagus again. Skewer them, or put them in a grate so they don’t move around. Brush with some garlic infused olive oil, grill on med heat for 5 min on each side.. YUM!!

      Sure will. I had a sort of 3 week detox before I began this and the less I drank the less I actually wanted to… which is weird but I’m sure based in Science.

    I am not drinking. (Except a diet Cherry Pepsi every now and again.) I’ll stand with you… And I am also in on the healthy eating. Death to Take Out!!

        Well, I do have to admit that I don’t drink so it makes that one easy… but the take out. Sometimes I am just too tired and I want to feed the kids, put them to bed and have a little alone time after work. (Which is spent doing more work… grading papers, planning lessons, researching, etc.) The work never ends, but it is usually worth it :) So, I am trying to be more organized. Have my work planned out ahead of time, have meals planned out ahead of time, etc. Wish me luck ;)

        Good luck!!
        Generally I am ok with the meal side of things but when I am busy that generally doesn’t work and we will have something from the freezer or take away. I think I sickened myself from eating take away because that’s what we ate the night before we left and both days of our holiday and the day we came back.. I felt dehydrated and weird and was craving veg!!
        Rose didn’t realise that I was detoxing and came back with a few things from the shop including a nice bottle of wine I like which is sneakily chilling away beautifully in the fridge!! lol.. I’m just going to pretend it’s a bottle of pee! :D Actually, I’m sure I will be ok going a month.. Like I said the less I drink alcohol the less I want to… something chemical I’m sure.

    Glad you’re back safe from your trip. Hopefully you feel rested and refreshed, aside from the detox thing…
    Something that I take when I am “detoxifying” is Milk Thistle tablets. It helps clean the kidney and . I take two 300mg tablets a day for 5 days. Don’t take it if you are allergic to ragweed, though!

    Wow detox! I am full of admiration and you are making me think maybe I should do something similar! We had friends over at the weekend and still have wine left over. Because it’s there I keep wanting to drink it!! :-s As long as it’s stays unopened I will abstain ;-)

      Oh man..see this is why I am a lush!! If I have wine left over from the weekend I think nothing of having it with dinner. :D
      The whole unopened thing is pretty much where I am at psychologically wise too. There is nothing sadder than a nice wee pinot gregio with a couple of lonely glasses left in it just waiting to be sipped with a nice dinner. . . . Well, thank goodness I don’t actually have any chilled pitot gregio in the house or I would be in trouble!! lol
      Yes.. someone else said they would be going on a wee detox too.. we can be the detox ..erm Trio! LMAO ;) (We need to come up with a better name though!) :D

    I’ve been meaning for the longest time to pop in and say thanks for following my deranged blog, and to tell you that I’m enjoying following your journey down the path to happiness!

    “Blergh…Meh!” I really laughed at the opening line of this post since Chi & I were scheduled to begin a 5-day liver detox programme on Oct. 3rd, and that’s the exact sound I made when I knocked back a shot of a concoction I started taking in preparation of the actual detox :) Would you mind terribly if I plagiarized that phrase to use as the title of the post I am writing about this experience?
