Day 66- Sing out of tune

6 Oct

I read an article in The psychologist’ –ha ha I always like to say that but I could have just as likely read it in a crap women’s mag! ;) that singing out of tune can make you even happier than singing in tune..

So me and Michael decided to try it. (The reason we are sitting so far apart is because he said he would decide if he wanted to do it when we began so sat out of the way! :D )

I realise I look a bit rough but I wasn’t long up … :/ hehe

Anyway.. I think this was a success. I definitely felt my mood uplifted after singing out of tune. I’m not sure whether it was because it was a good laugh or if it was something to do with brain chemicals or that somehow its just liberating to allow yourself to do something imperfect and with no pressure.. but it worked. !!

I plan on doing lots of out of tune singing in the future .. intentionally or not! :D

Hope you are having a happy weekend
xxLisa

I love this video. It’s so obvious that Michael loves you guys. And you look like you had a great time. I’ll definitely have to try this. Forgive me if I’m wrong but in this particular post, it seems that you are “happy” :)

Being an amateur musician, I hate it when I’m out of tune. But being with the music is the important thing. So, I leave you with these song quotes.

“Sing like you think no one’s listening”
(“Existentialism on Prom Night” by Straylight Run)

“It’s a perfect day for doing the unstuck
for dancing like you can’t hear the beat
    and don’t give a
further thought to things like this
    Let’s get happy!”
(“Doing the Unstuck” by the Cure)

Fantastic quotes!! Thank you!! I was actually a semi-professional singer/Guitarist for a while.. but it didn’t stop me being out of tune!! :P (I wasn’t actually trying then though!)
Good luck with your music!! :D

so, I just came across your blog (thanks for liking mine!) and I have to say this is BRILLIANT!!! What a fantastic idea to do something each day that makes you ( or should make you) happy!! It is in the small choices we make each day that really make the difference. What makes me happy is exercise..truly…running took me out of depression, and changed my life..but again it was one step at a time. One choice at a time. Go you!! I’m so rooting for you and can’t wait to see where this goes for you!

Thank you so much for your positive comments!! :D
I have been trying to exercise more …I think I need some sort of routine for that ..Forcingmyselfexercised.. is my next blog! ;)
I know how important it is to help our moods yet I find it hard to stick to doing something every day or even a few times a week..
My friend who used to not really do any exercise started running recently and she now totally loves it and has done fun runs and 5 and 10 Km type charity type things..
I may need to learn to jog first!! :D
I’m so glad that running helped you so much! :D Fantastic!! Good on you.
      Love and light. xxLisa

We can hope it is both the laugh and the singing. Then you get a double dose of those feel good chemicals. =)

Anytime that you do something you love with out the pressure of whether it is good or not sounds like a great way to make yourself happy.

Looks like you guys had a good time singing out of tune :D I usually sing out of tune when I am happy, I have noticed. So its an aftereffect rather than the reason that makes me happy in the first place.

ooh..good observation. I think a lot of people whistle or sing when they feel happy. Maybe If you tried to sing when you didn’t feel happy it might become a reason.. Experiment time! :D

Thanks for always making me smile. If your dog was there I am sure he would have joined in too. I know mine did when I played your video.

LMAO! Yes.. I miss my dog but she is happier at my Partners Brother. We used to always sing together ..she also liked to sing along with instruments like the recorder.. She actually had a good singing voice once she got going!! :D
I love the idea that our singing made a dog howl half way across the world! hehe
You make me smile too btw! :D

You do look very happy and it’s clear that you’re both having fun together. I also think that you’ve made great strides in self improvement and this is evident by the simple fact that you’re able to freely express yourself in front of a camera. You may still feel anxious and nervous while that red light is on but, it takes real courage to be able to get that far. :-)

    • forcingmyselfhappy October 9, 2012 at 9:11 am #

Thanks. I forget that I’m being filmed even when I am filming myself, weirdly. I can still get nervous though a wee bit, before I started suffering from anxiety I did a bit of acting (Mainly stage but done a wee bit of stuff in front of the camera) and also I used to sing/play in bands and wasn’t usually bothered by nerves…. It feels like it wasn’t me!! :D
Thanks for the nice words Brandon Bored! xx
